Plot

In the heart of the city lives a young, curious girl named Elsa, raised single-handedly by her mother, Isabelle, whose attention often strays from her daughter to her social circle. Their lives take a turn when they move next door to Julien, an elderly man with a passion for collecting butterflies. Elsa, feeling neglected by her mother, is drawn to the world of these winged wonders, much to the initial chagrin of Julien. Julien's life is invigorated when he receives a tantalizing package from a fellow entomologist. It fuels his annual quest to find a rare butterfly species named Isabelle, a promise once made to his late son, in the scenic French countryside of Vercors. Unbeknownst to Julien, Elsa sneaks away in his car, eager for an adventure. Upon discovery, she persuades him to let her accompany him on his expedition. As they traverse the verdant trails and camp under the starlit sky of Vercors, a bond flourishes between Elsa and Julien. What began as an annoyance for Julien evolves into a relationship akin to a grandfather and granddaughter. Their journey takes a daunting turn when Elsa falls into a well, leading to Julien's arrest by the police. Amidst the chaos, Elsa reassures everyone about her well-being, and Isabelle begins to awaken to the needs of her child. In a delightful twist, the mystery package reveals a caterpillar that metamorphoses into the elusive butterfly Julien sought after. Thus, Elsa finds her mother, Isabelle, both literally and metaphorically, while Julien finds his butterfly, also named Isabelle. The Butterfly, in true French cinema style, weaves a tale of unexpected friendships, promises fulfilled, and a surprisingly uplifting narrative of discovery and connection.
