Plot

In the wake of the Civil War, Confederate veteran Jeff Waring takes refuge in Independence, Missouri, determined to hang up his guns forever. However, the tranquil life he yearns for is disrupted by the menacing presence of Artemus Taylor, a ruthless rancher crippled by arthritis, and his brutal henchmen Sam Tobin and Cree. This trio seeks to terrorize and expel innocent settlers to monopolize their lands for the impending railroad, a plot harking back to the age-old narrative of 'The Great Train Robbery'. Yet, the raw execution and compelling performances elevate this tale from the realms of the ordinary. Caught in this turbulent era is the fiery Myrna Dell, Taylor's defiant daughter who embodies her father's ruthlessness, albeit with a touch of independence. On the side of virtue stands Dorothy Malone, the beautiful and steadfast school teacher. As Waring witnesses these injustices, his pacifist stance is tested, leading to a transformation that will change the course of his life. The Bushwhackers presents an enthralling post-war saga, where the lines between good and evil blur, and the promise of a peaceful future hangs in the balance.
