Plot

In the heart of Lille, resides the indomitable hairdresser Christine, a matriarch who single-handedly nurtures her two daughters and son amidst the steady humdrum of their middle-class existence. Her son, Philippe Tardieu, is a diligent worker at a renovation company, while the enigmatic Sophie Tardieu is on the brink of matrimony, and the seemingly aloof Patricia Tardieu is suspected of dabbling in drugs. The Tardieu household, where Christine operates her hairdressing salon, is a microcosm of their lives, teetering on the edge of normalcy yet tinged with an air of the unconventional. Christine's life takes an exciting turn when she introduces her children to her affluent boyfriend, Gérard Courtois, a recently divorced man hoping to sell his house. In a gesture of affection, she gifts him an ancient garden stone head of the goddess Flora that Philippe particularly cherishes. Despite his imminent business travel to Italy, Gérard mysteriously vanishes, leaving Christine and her family in a state of perplexity. In the midst of this uncertainty, Philippe encounters the enigmatic bridesmaid at Sophie's wedding, Stéphanie "Senta" Bellange. Their chemistry is palpable and they succumb to a passionate dalliance. Senta's eccentricity and Philippe's pragmatic nature form a tempestuous mix, leading to an unusual proclamation of love. Senta sets forth four peculiar tasks for them: composing a poem, planting a tree, exploring homosexual intimacy, and, most shockingly, committing a murder. A homeless man's murder at the harbor stirs Philippe's imagination, leading him to concoct a fantasy where he is the killer, all in a twisted bid to prove his love for Senta. A startling revelation awaits him when he awakens, as Senta confesses to murdering Gérard to appease him, even detailing her gruesome act. A bewildered Philippe embarks on a quest to uncover the truth behind Senta's chilling confession, leading him down a rabbit hole of secrets, lies, and a love that teeters on the brink of sanity. The Bridesmaid is a riveting exploration of love in its most bizarre form, where the line between reality and fantasy blurs ominously.
