Plot

In the sweeping landscapes of the Wild West, two neighboring ranch families, the Camps and the Larkins, are bound together by a budding romance between young Rod Camp (Bob Steele) and the sweet, captivating Margie Larkin (Lucile Browne). Their peaceful existence is shattered when Joe Larkin’s (William Farnum) estranged outlaw brother, Bill Larkins (George 'Gabby' Hayes), and his two unruly sons, Holt (James Flavin) and "Slim" (Archie Ricks), infiltrate the law-abiding family's homestead. Soon, the tranquil ranchlands are tainted by the rustling of cattle from neighboring ranchers, stirring a whirlwind of suspicion and unrest. The Larkin renegades, Holt and "Slim", not only contribute to the chaos but also overstep boundaries, asserting unwelcome advances towards their cousin Margie. This ignites a fiery confrontation between them and Rod at a spirited barn-dance. The tension reaches a boiling point when Rod's father (Charles K. French) stumbles upon the Larkins in the act of altering brands on stolen cattle. The resulting gunshot echoes across the plains, leaving Rod fatherless and thirsty for justice. With the Sheriff on their side, Rod embarks on a relentless quest to gather evidence, determined to expose the Larkins for the culprits they are. This riveting tale of love, betrayal, and retribution, "The Brand of Hate" (1934), unravels amidst the raw beauty and harsh realities of the American frontier.
