Plot

In the gritty backdrop of 1880's Yorkshire, Joe Skinner, a man of humble roots, marries the woman of his dreams, Lily Whitmore. Their union is not simply one of love, but an act of nobility to provide a name for Lily's illegitimate child, fathered by the scheming Lionel Fillmore, a high-born man living under the shadow of his decaying aristocratic heritage. Lionel, however, is far from content. His ambition turns towards Victoria, the unsuspecting cousin of industrious Bridget Mordaunt, under the false impression of her hidden wealth. But when Joe's wayward brother Fred poses a threat to Lionel's machinations, the aristocrat's ambition turns deadly. Fred is murdered, and the blame conveniently falls upon Joe. Bridget, harboring a deep respect for Joe, embarks on a mission to clear his name, inadvertently unearthing the nefarious web of deceit spun by Lionel. As Lionel teeters on the precipice of evading justice, a glimmer of hope emerges from an unexpected corner. Douglas, Lionel's introverted sculptor brother, stumbles upon the murder weapon, threatening to unravel the sinister truth of the killer's identity. The Black Candle illuminates the grimy underbelly of Victorian society, weaving a tale of love, betrayal, and the relentless pursuit of truth.
