The Big Cube (1969)

Exalted stage diva, Adriana Roman, who has long been the inspiration for playwright Frederick Lansdale, decides to step off the stage to marry wealthy magnate, Charles Winthrop. Her decision stirs resentment in the heart of Charles' daughter, Lisa, who sees Adriana as an intruder stealing her father's love. However, upon Charles' persistent urging, Lisa begrudgingly begins to form a bond with her new stepmother. Meanwhile, Lisa unwittingly becomes the object of allure for Johnny Allen, a cunning medical student with a dark trade of producing and selling acid among his group of modish associates. Engulfed by Johnny's deceptive charm, Lisa, naive and unsuspecting, falls into his intricate web of manipulation. Then, a tragic event with Charles opens a sinister door of opportunity for Johnny. Using Lisa's fragile relationship with Adriana, he conjures a scheme to drive Adriana to madness by tampering with her tranquilizers. As Adriana descends into a world of hallucinations, she is haunted by the terrifying belief that Lisa and Johnny are plotting her demise. In reality, it is Johnny who harbors the deadly intent, a truth unbeknownst to Lisa. As Adriana battles her tormented psyche, she confides in Frederick, who has always held a silent flame for her. Initially skeptical, he soon realizes that the reality may be far more sinister than it seems. Armed with newfound insight and the tools of his craft, Frederick embarks on a desperate mission to rescue Adriana from her psychological abyss, while also trying to save Lisa from Johnny's inevitable betrayal. In a world clouded by illusion, deceit, and greed, it's a race against time to unmask the truth and save a life.
