Plot

Beneath the sun-kissed skies of Malibu, a sinister shadow falls as a young girl's life is brutally snuffed out on the beach, sparking a mystery as deep as the ocean itself. Suspicions run rampant as Professor Otto Lindsay, a stoic oceanographer portrayed by the iconic '40s movie hero Jon Hall, theorizes that the culprit is an aquatic terror - a grotesque mutation of marine life with bulging eyes, a pointed skull, and tendrils of seaweed adorning its monstrous form. However, his son Richard, bereaved and resolute, believes otherwise. As a close friend of the deceased girl, he suspects a maniacal killer with a vendetta against him and his companions. This theory seems to hold weight as the body count ominously begins to rise, claiming Richard's surfer friend, his acerbic stepmother Vicky, and his friend Mark, who is already grappling with his own misfortune after a tragic auto accident. This chilling tale, deftly directed by Jon Hall himself, is masterfully woven together with a blend of black and white sequences and vibrant color vignettes, showcasing breathtaking stock footage of surfers conquering the Malibu waves. The eerie atmosphere is perfectly underscored by the haunting melodies of Frank Sinatra Jr., adding an extra layer of suspense to the relentless dread that pervades "The Beach Girls and the Monster." As the title alternatively suggests, the film unfolds a gripping narrative that explores the gritty underbelly of beachside paradise, where monstrous threats lurk beneath the surface - be they human, or something far more sinister.
