Plot

In the spirited sequel to The Bad News Bears (1976), we find the scrappy team of misfits, The Bears, as the unlikely champions of California's little league. Their victory is bittersweet, though, as they find themselves without their gruff Coach Buttermaker and their star pitcher, Amanda, who were instrumental in their near-win in the previous year. Despite these setbacks, the Bears harbor ambitious dreams of participating in the prestigious Japanese baseball championship. Their journey takes an unexpected detour when they receive an invitation to play an exhibition game at Houston's iconic Astrodome stadium. Without a moment's hesitation, the unsupervised Bears "borrow" a van and hit the road, eager to challenge Houston's local champions, the formidable Toros. Meanwhile, Kelly Leak, the Bears' prodigious yet rebellious player, seizes this opportunity to reconnect with his estranged father, Mike. In a twist of fate, Kelly's personal journey intertwines with the fate of the Bears, adding an emotional depth to their sporting saga. As the Bears navigate this daunting challenge without a coach, questions arise - Have our audacious underdogs bitten off more than they could chew? Or will their sheer determination and team spirit lead them to triumph in the heart of Houston? The Bad News Bears in Breaking Training (1977) is a captivating tale of resilience, camaraderie, and the enduring spirit of the underdog.
