Plot

In the whirlwind world of marital bliss turned sour, "The Awful Truth" introduces us to Lucy and Jerry Warriner, a compellingly flawed yet endearing couple entangled in a web of suspicion and romantic rivalry. As accusations of infidelity ricochet between them, the couple finds themselves in the cold halls of divorce court, with their beloved fox terrier, Mr. Smith, becoming the sole bone of contention. Post-divorce, each tries to fill the void with new companions. Lucy finds comfort in the arms of her oil-rich neighbor, Daniel Leeson, the quintessential unsophisticated bumpkin. Jerry, on the other hand, seeks solace in the company of the high-brow socialite, Barbara Vance, a woman whose elegance is as pronounced as her haughtiness. However, the ink on their divorce papers barely dry, the Warriners are drawn into a chaotic dance of sabotage. They conspire to thwart each other's blossoming relationships, employing an array of comical strategies. Jerry exploits his court-ordered visitation rights with Mr. Smith to wreak havoc, while Lucy brings the house down with an audacious impersonation of Jerry's brassy "sister," shocking Barbara's refined family to its core. Just as their plots reach a crescendo, Jerry and Lucy find themselves stranded in Lucy’s aunt’s quaint country house. Alone and away from their orchestrated chaos, they stumble upon a startling revelation about the blunder they've committed. With their new partners out of sight, will the Warriners recognize their folly, or will they continue their battle of wits? Find out in this delightful comedy of remarriage, "The Awful Truth."
