In the heart of the Choson Dynasty, circa 1724, a chance meeting sparks an undeniable love between Chun-doong, a tavern owner, and the enchanting Seol-ji, a kisaeng - a courtesan of high society. Their lives intertwine in an unexpected twist of fate when Seol-ji finds herself mistakenly delivered to Chun-doong's tavern, serving as a maid. Chun-doong's joy, however, is ephemeral, as Seol-ji is abruptly reclaimed by her legitimate owner, the formidable and politically influential gang boss, Man-deuk. Haunted by Seol-ji's absence, Chun-doong pledges to reclaim her, but his solitary attempts prove futile against Man-deuk's iron grip. A silver lining presents itself in the form of a friendly duel with Jjak-gwi, Man-deuk's primary adversary and rival gang boss. A fortuitous event sees Chun-doong unexpectedly incapacitating Jjak-gwi, thus inheriting his mantle. Jjak-gwi's destination had been a grand council of the kingdom's gang bosses, hosted at Man-deuk's inn, where Seol-ji now resides. As tensions simmer and near boiling point, Man-deuk audaciously introduces Seol-ji into the negotiations, threatening to trigger an underworld war. Unbeknownst to all, Man-deuk harbors grander schemes of treachery against the king and dreams of unrivaled power, with the downfall of Jjak-gwi's gang being the first piece in his treacherous puzzle. In this intricate web of love, power, and betrayal, Chun-doong finds himself an accidental gangster in a world filled with dangerous alliances and lethal ambitions.
