Plot
Enter a chaotic whirlwind of bizarre characters and unforeseen events in "Thank You, Doctor Rey". At the heart of the pandemonium is Thomas, a 23-year-old phone sex addict with an insatiable curiosity for personal ads and a profound desire for a deeper connection. His world, already spinning, is further disrupted by the arrival of his mother, Elisabeth Beaumont, an American opera diva with a flair for drama, visiting Paris to portray "Turandot" and to dabble in her delayed maternal duties.
Elisabeth's world is a spectacle of vibrant personalities and peculiar incidents. There's her impeccably dressed director friend, a host of uncannily similar hustlers, an actress with a delusion of being Vanessa Redgrave, and the real Vanessa Redgrave herself. Throw in some pot brownies, nauseating humor, a deceased body, and a fetish for Brian DePalma movies, and you have a recipe for a madcap adventure.
But Thomas craves more than his mother's belated nurturing. He seeks a fiery passion and a thrilling manhandling, a quest that leads him down a twisted path of voyeurism and eventually to murder. In dire need of therapy, he finds himself sitting across from a psychiatrist who is more than a little dead herself. A patient, as nutty as a fruitcake, now inhabits her chair.
The narrative spirals from one oddball event to another, from a gay father to a flying lesbian to an appearance from Jerry Hall, all culminating in a riveting exploration of narcissism, loss, and murder. "Thank You, Doctor Rey" is a strange, darkly humorous journey into the depths of human desire and the lengths we go to find connection.
