Plot

A lifelong bond of friendship ties together Ivan Alexeev and Josh Tager, two young men living unambitious lives in their parents' homes. When they lose their jobs as night security guards, Ivan's entrepreneurial spirit sparks an idea - to capitalize on Josh's passion for videography and establish their own music video production powerhouse, Video Aces. With Ivan's business acumen and Josh's creative flair, they stumble into the industry, their journey marred by missteps and missed opportunities. An unexpected break arrives in the form of Belinda, an avant-garde artist offering them both a space in her warehouse loft and a chance to launch their enterprise. Their voyage to success isn't smooth sailing; it's a rollercoaster ride filled with serendipitous triumphs and daunting setbacks. Their fortune takes a turn when they unwittingly land a gig recording a party at the mansion of Kay Mart, the wife of ultra-conservative White House hopeful, Norman Mart. Unbeknownst to them, they inadvertently secure a scandalous sex tape of Norman and his mistress, Nikki Morton, a ticking time bomb with the potential to obliterate Norman's political dreams. As they navigate the turbulent waters of the music video world, they dream of reviving the careers of their beloved soul group from the 70s, the Swanky Modes. But their newfound success and aspirations hang in the balance as Norman Mart will stop at nothing, even murder, to recover the damaging tape. Simultaneously, savvy pop culture journalist Samantha Gregory becomes aware of the tape's existence, her journalistic instincts sensing the opportunity to unmask Norman Mart's deceptive persona. In the heart of the vibrant 80s, Tapeheads (1988) is a whirlwind journey of two friends, their love for music, and an accidental foray into political scandal, as they strive to make their mark in the music video industry. Their story is a dynamic blend of ambition, friendship, music, and a dash of political intrigue, promising a pulsating ride from start to finish.
