Sweet Sixteen (2002)

In the grimy, desolate streets of Greenock, where hope is scarce and joblessness rampant, we find Liam, a young, spirited teen, wrestling with dreams larger than his circumstances. He's caught in a turbulent world, his mother, Jean, unjustly locked away in prison for a crime committed by her crude drug-dealer boyfriend, Stan. Stan finds an ally in Liam's equally abrasive and malicious grandfather, making Liam's world even more unbearable. As Jean's release date approaches, Liam is consumed by his dream of whisking his mother away from the toxic environment and starting anew. He envisions a peaceful life in a caravan park nestled in the tranquil village of West Kilbride, a safe haven far from the reach of Stan and his grandfather. But this dream comes with a hefty price tag, and Liam, an ordinary teen, must find extraordinary ways to raise the necessary cash. Liam and his loyal companions dive headfirst into a whirlwind of audacious schemes, each more daring than the last. Their desperation for a better life soon steers them into a world filled with legal troubles and dangerous enemies. Liam finds himself sinking deeper into a perilous underworld, a world far removed from his initial intentions. He knows he's in over his head, aware of the looming danger and the need to retreat. But this time, it's different, this time, Liam can't let go. The stakes are too high, and the dream too precious.
