In the quiet humdrum of 1950s Poland, Marta, a woman of European descent, finds herself navigating the murky waters of her life. She's ensnared in a semi-contented marriage with a local physician, a man whose devotion to his work borders on obsession. Their home is a solemn reminder of their sons, lost to the ravages of war, their absence casting long shadows on Marta's already fragile emotional state.
