Sugarhouse (2007)

In the grimy underbelly of the city, nestled amidst derelict squatter buildings, Tom, a middle-class man ensnared in a web of jealousy and revenge, steps far beyond his comfortable suburban existence. Fueled by a desperate determination to eliminate his wife's lover, he finds himself negotiating with D, an audacious, homeless crack junkie. Unbeknownst to Tom, the .38 he seeks to purchase is a stolen treasure, a lethal tool lifted from the menacing grasp of Hoodwink, a ruthless drug lord whose reputation for brutality is as potent as his narcotics. As Tom naively tries to navigate this perilous underworld, he is oblivious to the violent storm brewing. Hoodwink, incensed by the theft, embarks on a relentless warpath, his fury leaving no pusher unscathed as he demands the return of his prized weapon. Attempts to appease or buy off Hoodwink only pull Tom deeper into a vortex of danger and abuse, the stark contrast to his former life becoming increasingly stark. Amidst the charged tension and escalating threats, an unlikely understanding begins to form between Tom and D. As they grapple with the fallout from their choices, they each catch a glimpse of what drives the other, revealing layers of complexity beneath their initial impressions.
