In the bustling hub of Denver, Tess Nelson, a dedicated HR director and fifteen-year employee at the thriving online retailer, Connor.com, finds herself at the helm of a company-wide downsizing operation. Tasked with delivering the harsh news of termination to her colleagues, Tess navigates the tumultuous waters of corporate restructuring under the new leadership of Len Connor, who has inherited the successful business from his father. However, Tess is blindsided when she discovers she is not getting the anticipated promotion to VP, but instead is part of the downsizing plan, her role made redundant by Len's decision to outsource HR functions. In a bold bid to save her career, Tess secretly decides to attend a business conference at a luxurious resort in Puerto Rico, a trip initially scheduled on Connor.com's dime before her unexpected dismissal. Envisioned as a networking opportunity to secure a new job, her journey turns into a series of unfortunate events, beginning with a disastrous taxi ride to Denver Airport. Unbeknownst to Tess, her trip to Puerto Rico is about to take an unexpected turn. A dire weather forecast predicts Hurricane Alana hitting the island's shores, throwing her plans into further disarray. Amidst the chaos, Tess crosses paths with two individuals, Carter McConnell, a charismatic world traveler dedicated to humanitarian projects, and Stella Demur, an ex-Hollywood actress living in Puerto Rico. Their intriguing personalities and unconventional lifestyles offer Tess a fresh perspective on life. As the hurricane approaches, Tess finds herself caught in a storm of self-reflection. She begins to question the corporate life that she had held onto so firmly, a mindset instilled in her by her mother, Mona Nelson, after her father abandoned their family when she was a child. In the face of adversity, Tess is forced to contemplate whether she is truly happy and what it means to find passion in life—and love.
