Plot

In the heart of turn-of-the-century Louisiana, Dr. John Pearly is a charismatic con man peddling a dubious patent medicine, its primary ingredient nothing more than fiery whiskey. Striving to restore glory to a dilapidated steamboat, Pearly assembles a ragtag crew and boldly challenges the haughty yet esteemed Captain Eli to a high-stakes river race, with the steamboat serving as the prize. Caught in the crosscurrents of this thrilling rivalry is Pearly's young nephew, Duke, a lad with a knack for piloting but a weighty accusation hanging over his head. Duke stands accused of the grave crime of murder, alleged to have slain a troublesome 'swamp rat' in the defense of the honor of Fleety Belle, a spirited 'swamp girl'. With Duke behind bars, Pearly must navigate treacherous waters to secure his freedom. He exploits every resource at his disposal, converting his ship into a wax museum with an admission fee, all in an effort to raise funds for a reputable lawyer. Yet, the real gamble lies ahead in the winner-take-all river race to Baton Rouge. Pearly risks everything, not just for the glory of victory, but in the desperate hope of unearthing a witness whose testimony could be the key to liberating Duke from his grim fate. "Steamboat Round the Bend" is a captivating tale of honor, rivalry, and daring gambles set against the backdrop of Louisiana's enchanting riverways. Each turn in the story will keep you anchored, as you journey down the winding currents of this enthralling adventure.
