Plot

In the spirited comedy-adventure "Spook Busters" (1946), the quirky quintet known as the Bowery Boys - Slip (Leo Gorcey), Sach (Huntz Hall), Bobby (Bobby Jordan), Whitey (William Benedict), and Chuck (David Gorcey) - embark on a journey of entrepreneurial spirit after graduating from the Exterminator's College. With the exception of Sach, who flunks his course on bug extermination, they open their first business in their friend Louie's (Bernard Gorcey) Malt Shop, eager to make their mark on the world. The plot thickens when their overseas buddy, Gabe (Gabriel Dell), returns with his French bride Mignon (Tanis Chandler) and follows the boys to their inaugural exterminating assignment. Their destination? An eerie, reportedly haunted mansion that shivers with mystery. Yet, the boys soon discover that the mansion houses more than just spectral apparitions. Mad scientist Dr. Coslow (Douglass Dumbrille), along with his accomplices Ivan (Richard Alexander) and Stiles (Charles Middleton), have turned the mansion into a cloak-and-dagger laboratory. They have not only imprisoned Dr. Bender (Maurice Cass) and Mignon within its chilling walls, but they also plan a dastardly deed: to transplant the hapless Sach's brain into a gorilla. In this whirlwind of comedy, suspense, and adventure, the Bowery Boys are thrust into a world of mad scientists and haunted houses. As they strive to save their friends and themselves, they must leverage their exterminating skills in ways they never imagined. This delightful romp will keep you on the edge of your seat, laughing and gasping in equal measure.
