Plot

For four decades, the enduring figure of Mama Joe has been the glue binding her family together, weaving love and tradition into the fabric of their lives through the comforting ritual of soul food Sunday dinners. However, when Mama Joe's battle with diabetes lands her in the hospital, the absence of her nurturing presence at the dinner table begins to gnaw at the familial ties, causing them to fray. Amidst the brewing storm, her three daughters wrestle with their own tempests. Teri, the corporate high-flyer, grapples with the green-eyed monster, resenting the happiness of Maxine's marriage and bristling at the unwritten family rule that her hefty paycheck is a communal resource. Maxine, in turn, struggles with Teri's high-handedness and her disregard for the family customs that Mama Joe held dear. Meanwhile, Bird, the youngest of the trio, finds herself ensnared in a web of past and present as she navigates her new marriage to a former convict. A seemingly innocent favor from an old flame sparks a chain of events that result in her husband's incarceration. In the midst of this familial chaos, it falls to Mama Joe's young grandson, Ahmad, to cook up a plan. With the wisdom beyond his years and the secret ingredient of love, Ahmad attempts to stir the pot of familial discord and bring his family back together, reuniting them at the table where it all began. It's a tale of love, tradition, and the powerful bonds that keep a family together, even when they seem to be falling apart.
