Plot

In the heart of New Orleans, 1981, Sonny returns from the military to his mother Jewel's humble brothel, a world he had hoped to escape. Jewel, who runs the establishment with a firm hand, yearns for Sonny to step back into his former role - the most sought-after gigolo she's ever known. He resists, holding onto the hope of a promised job from an army comrade and the dream of a life beyond the brothel's walls. However, the allure of a straightforward life dissolves when the promised job evaporates into thin air, forcing Sonny back into the world of fleeting pleasures and painted smiles. During this time, he crosses paths with Carol, a recent addition to Jewel's roster of women. Their connection is immediate, blossoming into a tender love as they dream of a shared future beyond their present circumstances. When an older, wealthy client proposes to Carol, she is initially torn, keeping her heart tethered to Sonny. But as Sonny spirals into a melancholic haze, failing to break free from his past, their bond begins to unravel. As Sonny battles his demons and the sordid reality of his life, Carol is left to make a life-altering decision. The tale of Sonny is a complex exploration of love, hope, and the struggle to break free from the chains of the past.
