Something of Value (1957)

In the heartland of Kenya, Peter and Kimani's childhood friendship is tested by the harsh realities of racial prejudice. Kimani's world is shattered when his father is imprisoned for adhering to tribal traditions, leading him to join a group of insurgent rebels determined to purge their motherland of all non-Kenyans. As Kimani becomes entrenched in this cause, his moral compass waivers but never fully succumbs to the barbaric killings of the innocent and those refusing to align with the rebel's ideals. Amidst this turmoil, Peter, scarred by the brutal loss of his younger siblings at the hands of the Mau Mau, clings to the belief in harmonious co-existence. Battling against a tide of violence, Peter endeavours to mitigate the bloodshed, convinced that he can appeal to Kimani's skewed sense of justice.
