Plot

In the bleak yet stunning landscape of Fuerteventura Island, part of the Canary Islands, we find Álvaro Vizcaíno Albertos. A surfer by heart, he awakens in his jeep one fateful morning on September 6, 2014, the aftermath of a night drowned in liquor and a heated altercation with his part-time girlfriend Ona's companion. Alongside this, he grapples with the imminent departure of his dear friend Nelo, who plans to set off to Canada to start a family. Consumed by a storm of pride, anger, and jealousy, Álvaro, in his solitude, summons his surfboard and embarks on a quest to conquer the elusive perfect wave. As he treads the coastal dunes near his jeep, a sudden misstep sends him tumbling down a dune onto a reef, dangerously teetering on the edge, the rocks below threatening to shatter him. Harnessing his knowledge of the ocean's rhythm, Álvaro takes a perilous leap of faith. He lands in the water, but not without consequence. A severe head injury and a broken left hip render him immobile, stranded between the vast sea and the unforgiving shore, bereft of sustenance and assistance. Carried by the relenting tide to the beach, Álvaro finds himself marooned in a desolate world of solitude. His mind wanders through a maze of hallucinations with Ona, triggering a retrospective journey into the life he led before the accident and his interactions with his loved ones. This predicament morphs into a ruthless battle for survival where Álvaro must confront not just the specter of death, but also his will to live. His challenge is not just to endure, but to seize a chance at rescue before the sands of time run out.
