Plot

Lawrence Wetherhold, a widowed, curmudgeonly professor at Carnegie Mellon, navigates a life steeped in misery and disenchantment. His world orbits around his two children—a detached college student and an introverted high school senior—and his perennially wayward brother who's drifted back into town. Fate takes a sharp turn when a seizure sends Lawrence to the ER, bringing him face to face with a former student turned physician. A date ensues, setting the stage for a tumultuous dance of emotions. His daughter Vanessa, who's been forming a bond with her uncle, attempts to derail the budding relationship, oblivious to the fact that Lawrence's own cynicism could prove his worst adversary. As each character grapples with their own complexities, the question arises—can these intellectually gifted individuals navigate the labyrinth of life and find happiness, or will they remain trapped under layers of irony?
