Sleepwalking (2008)

In a seemingly stagnant Midwestern town, James "Speedy" Reedy is a living contradiction, a laid-back twenty-something drifting aimlessly through life's currents. A late-night call from his sister, Joleen, disrupts his languid existence. Trouble with the law has left her and her 12-year-old daughter, Tara, homeless and desperate. With reluctant chivalry, James opens his doors to his estranged family, stepping into an unfamiliar role. But just as he is getting accustomed to this new reality, Joleen disappears, leaving behind a trail of illicit treasure and a trucker with a suspicious agenda. Suddenly plunged into a whirlpool of adversity, James finds himself jobless and alone, with Tara snatched away by the relentless grip of child protective services. As Tara wilts in the confines of foster care, James is left to ponder if he can shed his passive exterior and embrace the hero within. His path to awakening may lie along the highways of his past, leading him on a journey back to his childhood. Yet, this could either be the key to redemption or another pitfall in his sleepwalking existence. Can James rouse himself from his slumber and rise to the challenge, or will he forever remain the nice guy caught in a never-ending nightmare?
