In the heart of the serene village of Stainbach, an ominous presence looms. This unspeakable dread is birthed from the terrifying nightmares of Marlene (Sandra Hüller), a woman whose dreams seem to transcend the boundaries of her subconscious, reaching into the tangible world and pulling the village into a vortex of madness. The villagers, driven to the brink of insanity, become mere playthings in the theater of her night terrors. When Marlene uncovers that the macabre scenarios in her dreams are mirrored in the reality of Stainbach, she embarks on a chilling journey to unravel the mystery. The torch of discovery is then passed on to Mona (Gro Swantje Kohlhof), Marlene's determined daughter. Venturing into the heart of Stainbach, she seeks to uncover the root of her mother's torment. Encountering the cryptic villagers who hold the keys to the secrets of the village, Mona stumbles upon a well-guarded family secret and an age-old curse that threatens to engulf her. As Mona delves deeper, she uncovers the layers of Stainbach's dark history that are ingeniously interwoven with her mother's nightmares. In the end, she realizes that the demon haunting the village might not be an external force after all, but rather the spectral echo of a dreadful past. The eternal nightmare that is Stainbach holds not only her mother's sanity but also her own life in its cold, unforgiving grasp.
