Wealthy and indolent Marquis Sévéro, a Parisian of high standing, is caught in a web of desire. He yearns to divorce his current spouse to wed his charming goddaughter, Denise. However, Denise is enamored with André Berval, a talented engineer in the Marquis' employ. Stirred by envy, the Marquis crafts a cunning plan, dispatching André to the lush Antilles to survey newly purchased land. Under the guise of a promise that success will earn André Denise's hand in marriage, he secretly plots to maroon him there forever.
He pens a deceptive letter to his site manager, the brutish Alvarez, instructing him to ensure André never steps foot on French soil again. When André thwarts Alvarez's attempt to violate Papitou, a stunning native beauty, Alvarez's disdain for him intensifies. However, this act of heroism wins Papitou's unwavering loyalty.
