Plot

Wealthy and indolent Marquis Sévéro, a Parisian of high standing, is caught in a web of desire. He yearns to divorce his current spouse to wed his charming goddaughter, Denise. However, Denise is enamored with André Berval, a talented engineer in the Marquis' employ. Stirred by envy, the Marquis crafts a cunning plan, dispatching André to the lush Antilles to survey newly purchased land. Under the guise of a promise that success will earn André Denise's hand in marriage, he secretly plots to maroon him there forever. He pens a deceptive letter to his site manager, the brutish Alvarez, instructing him to ensure André never steps foot on French soil again. When André thwarts Alvarez's attempt to violate Papitou, a stunning native beauty, Alvarez's disdain for him intensifies. However, this act of heroism wins Papitou's unwavering loyalty. She becomes André's guardian angel against Alvarez's malicious machinations. Yet, Papitou is confronted with her own heartache when she discovers André's intention to wed Denise. This 1927 classic weaves a tale of lust, betrayal, and unrequited love set amidst the exotic backdrop of the tropics.
