Plot

In the untamed expanse of the 1850 Oregon Territory, Adam Pontipee, a rustic farmer and the eldest of seven raw and uncultured brothers, ventures into town with two things on his mind: trading supplies and finding a wife. His quest leads him to the spirited Milly, a stalwart barmaid who captivates him with her strength and resilience. Overwhelmed by Adam's charm and the prospect of a life away from the bar, Milly accepts his hasty marriage proposal, envisioning a tranquil existence with her new husband. However, upon arriving at Adam's remote homestead, Milly discovers that her dream of a peaceful married life is far from reality. She is greeted by six unkempt and boorish brothers-in-law, all living under the same roof. Disheartened but not defeated, Milly embarks on a mission to transform the wild Pontipee brothers into civilised gentlemen. She instructs them on the nuances of hygiene, good manners, and the art of winning hearts, gradually reshaping their unruly ways. At the annual town picnic, the newly refined brothers each find themselves smitten by a local maiden. Yet, the return to their isolated farm reignites the pangs of solitude. Inspired by a tale from Plutarch's writings on 'The Rape of the Sabine Women', where Roman men abducted wives from Sabine families, Adam concocts a daring plan to alleviate his brothers' loneliness. The Pontipee brothers, led by Adam, descend upon the town and whisk away their beloved girls, leaving a trail of chaos in their wake. As they escape across a gorge, they unwittingly trigger a snow avalanche that seals off the pass, trapping them and their 'brides' at the farm until spring. Milly, ever the matriarch, takes control of the situation, housing the girls and banishing the brothers to the barn. As winter gives way to spring, the farm becomes a hotbed of tension, romance, and unexpected events, leading to a melting pot of emotions and relationships that redefine the lives of Milly, Adam, his brothers, and their 'brides'.
