Secret Summer (2016)

In the quaint Californian hamlet of serene beauty, Jake, an intrepid author and adventurer, embarks on his latest escapade, tracing the fabled treasures of the pacifistic pirate, Captain Black Bart. His quest leads him to the town's historical heart, a grand old library, a beacon of knowledge and community spirit. Agreeing to care for his nephew Noah, a fellow treasure enthusiast, and his niece Hailey, who is smitten with the charming boy at the local general store, Jake steps in as their guardian for the summer. His estranged brother and sister-in-law, engrossed in the family business Jake left behind, had promised the kids an Italian vacation that they must now forego. Enter Rachel, a reluctant appraiser from New York, dispatched by her corporate employer to evaluate the library for a potential and contentious sale to build a luxury resort. The news unsettles the town, especially the steadfast librarian, Annie Archer, who enlists Jake's charismatic charm to convince Rachel of the library's irreplaceable value to the community. Despite his burgeoning novel and familial responsibilities, Jake accepts the challenge, fostering a connection with Rachel while also turning to her for advice on his newfound role as a doting uncle. As Rachel and Jake delve deeper into the town's lore and the library's significance, they find themselves drawn into the whirl of local life and to each other. However, the looming threat of the library's sale and the contrast between Rachel's metropolitan job and Jake's nomadic lifestyle cast a shadow over their blossoming romance. As the summer unfolds, they must navigate these hurdles and decide whether their relationship is merely a summer fling or something worth fighting for, all while striving to save the cornerstone of the town's spirit, the beloved library.
