Second in Command (2006)

In the heart of the tumultuous Eastern European nation of Moldavia, decorated Navy Commander Sam Keenan finds himself thrust into the epicentre of a brewing civil war. As the newly appointed Security Attache to the U.S. Embassy, Keenan's mission curdles from diplomacy to survival when a riot erupts at the presidential palace, shaking the nation's infant democracy to its core. Under the guidance of Ambassador George Norland, Keenan becomes the deputy ambassador, a title that swiftly gains weight as the nation's newly-elected President, Yuri Amirev, seeks refuge within the sturdy walls of the embassy. Amirev, a symbol of hope for a democracy-hungry nation, is pursued by a relentless army of insurgents loyal to the cruel former communist leader, Alexei Kirilov. Led by the ruthless Anton Tavarov, their objective is unambiguous: to seize Amirev and quench the spark of democracy he ignites. When a rocket claims Norland's life, Keenan must step into the gaping void of leadership. The embassy, teetering on the edge of a violent siege, becomes a fortress for fifty Americans, including Keenan's girlfriend, the tenacious reporter Michelle Whitman. With only 15 Marines, limited ammunition, the dubious help of CIA bureaucrat Frank Gaines, and his own formidable martial arts skills, Keenan is tasked with the herculean duty of holding off Tavarov's army until American reinforcements arrive. As Tavarov's men prepare to storm the embassy, a clandestine power struggle brews between Keenan and Gaines, adding another layer of tension to the already dire situation. With the dawn of rescue hours away, it falls on Keenan's broad shoulders to protect the hostages, defend the embassy, and ensure that the flame of democracy in Moldavia continues to burn. Survival is the name of the game, and in this deadly match, Keenan is the nation's only hope.
