Salaakhen (1998)

In the heart of an ordinary middle-class neighborhood resides Sachidanand Agnihotri, a stalwart schoolmaster living an unassuming life with his wife, Gayetri, and their son, Vishal. Sachidanand's unyielding honesty, a beacon of virtue in a murky world, ironically becomes his downfall as it renders him unable to secure a stable job in a society that views his integrity as a liability. One fateful day, Sachidanand becomes the unwilling witness to a horrifying crime committed by Nagesh, the son of the influential and corrupt social worker, Jaspal Rana. As he attempts to bring the law into this despicable situation, he finds himself engulfed in a whirlpool of frustration and injustice, as his pleas fall on deaf ears. Enter Vishal, the humble son propelled into action by the unbearable sight of his father's relentless struggle. He valiantly steps into the battlefield, only to be shackled and thrown behind bars. The case lands in court, where under the cunning manipulation of advocate Ashok Pradhan, Sachidanand's world spirals into chaos. The courtroom becomes a fearsome arena where Sachidanand's mental stability is questioned, and under the intense pressure of the unjust proceedings, he tragically succumbs to suicide. In the face of this heart-wrenching loss, Vishal makes a daring escape from prison. Fuelled by an unquenchable thirst for justice, he embarks on a quest to avenge his father's untimely death. Salaakhen paints a gripping tale of courage and retribution, where a young man dares to challenge the corrupt system that claimed his father's life.
