The year is 1953, and St. Magnus Catholic School in Hamilton, Ontario serves as the backdrop for the compelling journey of 14-year-old Ralph Walker. A quintessential teenager, Ralph's fascination with smoking and the opposite sex make him the target of mockery among peers and a constant source of trouble with the strict school headmaster, Father Fitzpatrick. An unexpected turn of events forces Ralph to channel his energies into joining the school's cross-country running team, under the unconventional guidance of Father Hibbert. Ralph's life is far from ordinary.
