Embroidered in the vibrant tapestry of Bosnia and Herzegovina's history, "Sabina K." is a poignant narrative of love, loss, and longing. Sabina, a Muslim, and Sasa, a Catholic, are former Bosnian War comrades, their bond of love stronger than the religious divide that their families staunchly uphold. Their only beacon of hope is the warm-hearted Ankica, a mother figure who sees them as her own, her son's memory living through their friendship. As spring breathes life into the island of Korcula, Sabina journeys to Ankica, their reunion a poignant reminder of a shared past. They wait for Sasa to make his entrance from Zagreb, but the days turn into a melancholic symphony of waiting. Sasa never comes. A heart heavy with unanswered questions, Sabina returns to Sarajevo only to find her life further unraveled. Sasa's absence is a void she cannot fill. His personal belongings are missing from her apartment, his mother's embittered words are a slap of reality, and his disappearance a mystery she cannot fathom. But life has a cruel way of surprising us: Sabina discovers she is pregnant. Despite counsel from loved ones to abort and forget, Sabina chooses to embrace this unexpected turn of life. As winter's icy grip descends on Sarajevo, Sabina's life spirals into a whirlwind of despair. Jobless, threatened by her ex-husband, and abandoned by family and friends, Sabina's resilience is tested. Her failed suicide attempt lands her in the hospital, only to be confronted with more bitter news - her apartment is no more hers. As she roams the frostbitten streets of Sarajevo, Sabina decides to make one more deadly attempt to escape her misery. She sells her last piece of jewelry, purchases a lethal dose of sleeping pills, and checks into a motel. As she hovers on the precipice of life and death, her story takes a turn that leaves room for interpretation and conjecture. One fact, however, rings undeniable: Sabina K. will never be the same again.
