Rock Rock Rock! (1956)

As the high school prom draws near, the air is thick with blossoming romance and electric anticipation. Dori Graham, a vibrant teenager, finds her heart beating in sync with the rhythm of rock and roll for her beau, Tommy Rogers. Their prom night dreams take an extraordinary turn when Tommy, triumphant in a talent contest, persuades music maestro Alan Freed to stage his exhilarating rock ‘n’ roll television show live at their prom. Dori's best friend, Arabella, is initially forlorn, with no date and no hope for the prom. However, a spark of hope ignites when she becomes enamored with a charming boy named Melville, hoping to dazzle him enough to score a prom invitation. Meanwhile, Dori’s dreamy prom night is threatened by the arrival of the alluring Gloria Barker, who has her eyes set on Tommy and a tantalizing strapless gown to ensnare him. Dori, not to be outdone, finds herself entranced by a similar $30 gown in Miss Silky's boutique. However, her father, wanting to teach her fiscal responsibility, has shut down her store accounts and proposes a deal: he'll contribute half the cost if she can raise the other half. Determined but penniless, Dori hatches a plan to earn the money, but her muddled understanding of math and business could potentially sabotage her friendships, her chances at getting the gown, and her dream prom date with Tommy. Simultaneously, this film encapsulates the early rock and roll era with performances by iconic artists like Chuck Berry, La Vern Baker, Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers, The Flamingos, The Moonglows, and The Johnny Burnette Trio.
