Plot

Emerging from the tranquil cocoon of vacation, esteemed TV writer-producer Phil Winters (Turturro) plummets into a chilling reality where it seems he has been erased from existence. The usual signs of life - lost luggage, an empty mailbox, and a voice messaging system devoid of chatter - are starkly absent. The strangeness amplifies when he discovers his once vibrant office in the studio is now a ghost of its past, occupied by a stranger, with his loyal assistant mysteriously vanished. The world, even his trusted psychiatrist Dr. Seymour (Castellaneta), seems to have forgotten Phil. Longing for connection, Phil finds himself in a trendy bar, a buzzing hive of activity where he, a ghost among the living, is overlooked by all except one: a captivating young woman named Debbie (Murphy). Debbie presents herself as his daughter from a forgotten college romance. Despite the absurdity, Phil welcomes her into his life, compelled by the fact that she is the sole person who acknowledges his existence. As the narrative unfurls, Debbie guides Phil on a darkly humorous odyssey of self-discovery. Her identity and her motives remain shrouded in mystery, and Phil finds himself grappling with questions that threaten to consume him: Who is Debbie? Why has she sought him out? And most importantly, will anyone else in the world remember Phil? Released in 2008, this intriguing tale combines the conundrums of existence with a dash of comic relief.
