In the heart of the South, nestled amongst magnolias and long-held secrets, stands the Phillips House. Here, young Chicago native Jennifer Stewart embarks on her first trip down south, invited by her enigmatic benefactress and distant cousin, Eva Phillips, whom she is meeting for the first time. The house, steeped in history and familial ties, is home to Eva's husband Avery 'Beauty' Phillips, scarred from a long-past accident, and his sister, Carol Lee Phillips. Upon her arrival, Jennifer finds herself swept into the warm yet complex social circle of the Phillips family. She draws the particular interest of Ty McKinnon, a courtship subtly encouraged by Eva. Yet, not all is welcoming in the Phillips House. 'Beauty', burdened by alcoholism and resentment, seems to hold a bitter disdain for Jennifer's visit. But it is Eva, the woman who invited her, that casts an undeniable shadow over the room, a presence so palpable it feels like a cold hand on the nape of the neck. Despite the underlying tensions and warning whispers from Carol, Jennifer is instantly captivated by Eva, drawn into her charisma like a moth to a flame.
