Plot

At the tender age of 15, Masha Drokova is swept up in the high-octane fervor of Nashi, a fiercely nationalistic Russian youth organization. This 19-year-old spokesperson becomes the embodiment of the group's loyalty, garnering recognition and rewards, including a medal and an unforgettable kiss from Vladimir Putin himself. "Putin's Kiss" (2011) delves into Masha's escalating disillusionment as she scales the ranks of this government-friendly movement, witnessing its relentless campaign to shield Russia from perceived enemies. However, Masha's steadfast loyalty begins to waver when she crosses paths with a group of critical journalists, notably the renowned blogger Oleg Kashin. Kashin boldly likens Nashi to the 'Hitlerjugend', sparking controversy and tension. Masha finds herself torn, defending her movement while also becoming increasingly aware of the nefarious provocations and harassment perpetrated against the Russian opposition by 'unknown assailants' swirling around her. The plot thickens dramatically when Kashin becomes the victim of a brutal attack that nearly snuffs out his life. This shocking event forces Masha to wrestle with her allegiances and the chilling reality of Nashi's operations. The line between protector and oppressor blurs, pushing Masha to take a definitive stance – either for or against her once cherished organization. "Putin's Kiss" is a gripping exploration of youthful idealism, political machinations, and the personal awakening that can shake one's world to its core.
