Plot

In the pulsating heart of Mexico City, Violet Perfume unfurls a compelling narrative of friendship and resilience amidst the city's menacing underbelly. Grounded in reality, director Sistach presents a harrowing tale of two young girls, Yessica and Miriam, whose bond of friendship is tested by a traumatic event. Yessica is a firebrand, often at loggerheads with her stifling lower middle-class family, including her oppressive stepfather and loathsome stepbrother, Jorge. Her rebellious spirit lands her in a devastating situation when Jorge, in a twisted bargain, orchestrates her assault in return for money. Overwhelmed by fear and shame, Yessica remains silent, seeking solace in her friendship with the gentle and naive Miriam. Raised by a poor single mother, Miriam's life contrasts starkly with Yessica's, offering a beacon of stability amidst the turbulence. As Yessica leans heavily on this friendship, Miriam's innocence begins to crumble, leading her down a slippery slope she never anticipated. Violet Perfume paints an unflinching portrait of the growing epidemic of sexual assault in urban Mexico, while exploring the complex dynamics of friendship, betrayal, and survival. Through the journey of Yessica and Miriam, it delves into the struggle for control over one's fate, inviting viewers into a poignant narrative that is as moving as it is confronting.
