In the hazy world of failed actors and crime shorts, we find Ugo, Raimondo, and Marcella, a trio committed to their craft but plagued by chronic failures. They stage a chilling murder scene for a prospective producer at a boarding house, unaware their performance is being observed by Arturo, a man trapped in a loveless marriage. Arturo, a desperate husband yearning to be free from his disloyal wife Annalisa, mistakes the actors' rehearsal for reality, convincing himself he has found the perfect solution to his problem.
The misunderstood portrayal leads Arturo to seek out Ugo and Raimondo, offering them a hefty bounty to eliminate his wayward spouse. The actors, despite their non-violent nature, are lured by the promise of financial gain. They devise an intricate scheme to trick Arturo into believing his wife is no more, expecting a lucrative payout in return.
However, this tale of deceit and conspiracy doesn't end here. Annalisa, far from being the unsuspecting victim, is embroiled in her own nefarious plot. With her lover Pietro at her side, she plans to eliminate Arturo and frame Ugo as the culprit.
