Premonitions Following an Evil Deed (1995)
Plot
In 1995, as a tribute to the centenary of the revolutionary Cinématographe, the pioneering motion-picture camera and projector, forty esteemed directors were invited to craft a short film, bound by certain constraints. David Lynch, wielding the iconic Lumière brothers' original camera, weaves a haunting tapestry of the mundane and the macabre in three unnerving "takes".
The narrative begins with the chilling uncovering of a corpse by three police officers, which triggers an unsettling sensation in a woman situated miles away in her living room. Suddenly, the scene transitions to a trio of scantily-clad women advancing towards the camera, and in a swirl of smoke, the viewer is abruptly whisked away to a disquieting laboratory housing sights that defy comprehension.
In a startling return to the living room scene, a policeman breaks the grim news to the increasingly distraught woman, while the ominous silhouette of a malevolent entity looms in the background. This hair-raising short film forms a part of the anthology film, Lumière et compagnie (1995), a stunning testament to a century of cinematic innovation.
