Plot

Lárus, a beleaguered urban engineer, finds his life in shambles. His wife's affair with his boss leaves him jobless while his ailing father's last wish sends him on an uncertain journey to Búðardalur, a small farming community on the brink of oblivion. With nothing more than a half-baked plan to revitalize their dormant slaughterhouse, Lárus plunges headfirst into a world he barely comprehends. Upon his arrival, the intricacies of small-town politics and charismatic personalities wrap him in a whirlwind of mischief and manipulation. The Mayor, a long-time friend of his father, has his own agenda for the town, while Elín, an ambitious local from Nordlenska, is hell-bent on undermining the Mayor's authority. As the town's future hangs in the balance, Lárus finds himself thrust into a brewing storm of power plays and political gambits. In the simmering cauldron of Búðardalur politics, Lárus is swept up in a dangerous game, one that is far removed from his former city life. Struggling to navigate through the town's power struggle, he must learn to stand his ground as an unwitting pawn in the war for Búðardalur's destiny. Will he manage to reignite the community's spirit, or will he fall victim to the cunning machinations of small-town politics? In this potent blend of drama and intrigue, 'Polite People' paints a vivid picture of one man's desperate attempt to salvage his life, while caught in the crossfire of a rural town's fight for survival.
