Plot
In the dusty recesses of Nogales, Arizona, we meet Jim Kane, an affable cowboy whose knack for bad luck overshadows his charm. Riding the ragged edge of survival with a blend of odd jobs and unsteady loans, Jim's latest venture - a horse investment - backfires catastrophically, with his equine assets quarantined due to STD. Strapped for cash, he finds solace in the hotel maid's quarters, thanks to a compassionate clerk, while his ex-wife's patience cushions his failure to meet alimony obligations.
Resisting the safety net of his uncle's job offer, Jim, in a desperate bid to salvage his sinking fortunes, gets lured into a risky deal. The proposition: to buy cattle in Mexico for a shadowy businessman notorious for his dubious operations. Venturing south of the border, he reunites with Leonard, an old friend notorious for his unending string of unsuccessful get-rich-quick schemes, who now calls Mexico home.
Together, they plunge into the chaotic world of Mexican cattle trade, negotiating with a colorful palette of local ranchers. Their journey, riddled with obstacles and setbacks, quickly spirals into a whirlwind of trouble. Pocket Money (1972) paints a vivid portrait of two well-meaning losers caught in a high-stakes game of chance and survival - a true testament to friendship against the odds.
