Plot

In the bustling heart of New York City, Laurence "Larry" McKay, a respected university drama professor, and his wife Kate, lead a lively home life in their apartment overflowing with their four spirited sons and a rambunctious sheepdog. Despite being surrounded by the glittering allure of the New York theater scene, the couple dreams of a quieter existence in the countryside, a dream that seems increasingly tangible until Larry's career takes an unexpected turn. He becomes a theater critic for a major New York newspaper, thrusting him deeper into the city's theatrical whirlwind and bestowing upon him the power to make or break Broadway productions with his reviews. Larry's new role stirs turmoil when he pens a negative review for a play by their closest friend and children's godfather, Alfred North. This act, coupled with Larry's newfound enjoyment of dazzling socialite parties and his apparent relish in writing scathing critiques, causes Kate to question whether her husband's priorities—and loyalties—are shifting. The couple's dream of moving to the countryside becomes a reality under unexpected circumstances. They find themselves in a charmingly dilapidated house in Hooton, New York, where Kate endeavors to establish a new life for their family. However, her involvement in a local charity theater production, for which she solicits Alfred’s help, risks tearing apart their friendship with Alfred and putting their own marriage under strain. Meanwhile, Larry's mention of a flirtatious encounter with Broadway star Deborah Vaughn stirs the pot further, causing Kate to question his fidelity. Amidst the tranquility of their country home and the glitz of New York’s theater scene, Larry and Kate must navigate the challenges their new life presents, testing their bond and their dreams. The whimsical tale of "Please Don't Eat the Daisies" captures the struggle between ambition and family, the allure of fame, and the enduring power of love.
