Plot

In the heart of Vancouver, Tyler 'Ty' Rivers, an esteemed black basketball star, treads the treacherous path of infidelity with free-spirited, white party enthusiast, Nicole Alpern. The pair's clandestine affair takes a tumultuous turn when Nicole declares her contraceptive has failed. Doubting his paternity, Ty abandons Nicole, only to reclaim his fatherly rights months following their son Noah's birth. This unexpected demand is backed by Ty's wife, Beverly, who is also the mother of his two daughters. Nicole finds herself isolated, her only support coming from her remarried father after her lawyer, Henry Wong, renounces her as an erratic and irredeemable client. The tides of fortune shift when Peter Marcheson, a brilliant young attorney with a hunger for high-profile exposure, steps in to champion Nicole's cause on a pro bono basis. Marcheson's legal prowess leads to victory, only for Ty's lawyer, Daniel Gibson, to overturn the decision in the British Columbia Court of Appeal, citing racial prejudice as the foundation of his argument. With the scales of justice teetering precariously, only the Supreme Court of Canada can set an unprecedented legal path and reverse the decision. Will Nicole and Noah secure their rights, or will the court's gavel fall in favor of Ty? The riveting drama of 'Playing for Keeps' encapsulates the struggle for justice, the complexities of race, and the resilient spirit of a mother fighting for her child.
