Plot

In the chilling autumn of 1994, on the ominous date of October 21, the unhinged Harlan Diehl immerses his family in a bloodbath on their quaint farm, sparing only the life of an innocent babe. Decades later, the echoes of this gruesome tale continue to haunt the town, rippling into the lives of a group of curious high school students. The story pivots around Julian Miller, a young amateur filmmaker with an insatiable curiosity for the eerie. With the assistance of his friend Quinn, an employee at a local TV studio, he gathers a team of his peers, including his girlfriend Riley, to delve into the infamous story of Harlan Diehl. The group is unaware of the raw evil that their exploration is about to unearth. As the young filmmakers pierce deeper into the town's macabre history, they unknowingly unlock a malevolent force that has been lying dormant, waiting for a chance to resurface. Manifesting through the playback of videotapes, this spectral entity possesses its victims, using them as pawns in its diabolical game. Quinn, tainted by his shady dealings with the perverse police officer Frank Lyons, becomes the first to fall prey to this possession. This sinister force zeroes in on a specific soul, threatening to unveil the town's darkest secret, a secret buried deep under the years of fear. As the body count rises and the town is drawn into a whirlpool of terror, the high school students must confront the evil they've stirred before it consumes them all in its relentless pursuit of destruction. This is Playback, a chilling tale of how curiosity can lead to a dance with death itself.
