Pi (1998)

Max is an obsessive. The genius mathematician has foregone social interaction almost entirely in the pursuit of the meaning life. He believes that recurring mathematical patterns in nature demonstrate an underlying principle — and as he becomes more obsessed, these patterns continue to recur everywhere around him. And while some around him worry that Max's obsession is growing unhealthy and dangerous, there are two parties who are very interested in the work he's doing. A mysterious Wall Street firm and a sect of Hasidic mystics are both interested in Max's work, and they're eager to persuade him why he should share his secrets with them.
