Plot

As the leaves of 1963 Paris begin to turn, young Anne stands on the precipice of adolescence. Back from a summer beach sojourn with her father, she and her elder sister, Frédérique, find themselves entwined in the bustling labyrinth of teenage life. For Frédérique, the school year unfurls like a rich tapestry of firsts: the bloom of a serious romance, the awakening of political consciousness with the Algerian conflict and nuclear disarmament debates, the intoxicating thrill of a first kiss from an older suitor, the strain and eventual severing of friendships over differing moral compasses, and the poignant sting of a runaway friend. In the shadow of these momentous events, Anne, observing her sister's journey with wide-eyed fascination, navigates her own path through the maze of growing up. It's a year marked by the advent of womanhood, learning the intricate dance of conversing with boys, tackling the challenge of unjust educators, and repairing the rifts with their mother after a misadventure. Peppermint Soda, set against the vibrant backdrop of Paris, is a coming of age tale that intricately weaves the joys and trials of two sisters navigating the turbulent waters of adolescence, each with their unique perspective and lessons. The narrative pulses with life, evoking the bittersweet symphony of growing up, where every first is both an end and a beginning.
