Plot

In the restless heart of 1930s Berlin, Edwin, a hardworking taxi driver, shares his humble abode with Annie, a delicate model suffering from neurasthenia. As the weekend approaches, they plan to unwind at the picturesque Nikolassee beach, accompanied by Wolfgang, a multifaceted character who seamlessly transitions from a gentleman officer to a charming gigolo, currently engaged in wine selling. However, a heated disagreement leaves Annie marooned at home while Edwin sets out for a day of leisure with Wolfgang, who introduces a new romantic interest, Christl. Injecting an additional dynamic to the group is Brigitte, Christl's closest ally and a record shop manager with a vibrant personality. At the sun-soaked beach, Wolfgang's failed romantic advances towards Christl divert his attention to the more welcoming Brigitte. As passion ensues between them, an unsuspecting Edwin and Christl are left in the lurch. Later, the men, now sated of their romantic escapades, engage in flirtatious banter with two new women, causing shock and dismay in Brigitte and Christl. The women find bitter satisfaction in lending money to Edwin and Wolfgang for their paddle-boat rental, only to be left high and dry at the day's end. Despite Brigitte's hopes of another Sunday rendezvous, the men set different plans, emphasizing the stronger bond between them. The Sunday, in retrospect, was a shared experience between the two friends rather than their dates. As Monday dawns, Edwin returns home to Annie, still entwined in her bed sheets. Life resumes its usual rhythm; Edwin navigates his taxi through the city streets, Wolfgang peddles wine, and Brigitte buzzes around her record store. The anticipation of another Sunday hangs in the air, laced with uncertainty and the promise of new adventures.
