Plot

In an unassuming research institute, a narrative unfolds, spun by Paulie, a remarkably clever parrot with the gift of human speech. He shares his extraordinary tale with a compassionate Russian immigrant janitor, his only companion in a place where he is largely overlooked. Paulie’s journey begins years prior, gifted to a sweet, stuttering girl. Through their unique bond, he aids her in overcoming her speech impediment, only to be snatched away by her concerned father who fears his daughter's growing inability to separate the fantastical – a talking bird – from reality. Paulie's life becomes a whirlwind of adventure, as he finds himself in the company of an eclectic mix of characters – a quirky pawn shop proprietor, a lonely widow in her twilight years, a vibrant Mexican-American minstrel, and a misguided thief. Each of these encounters shapes Paulie's journey, leading him to his present life in the confines of the research institute. The film 'Paulie' paints a colourful story of friendship, resilience, and the enduring power of communication, all through the eyes of a talking parrot.
