Plot

Caught in the whirlwind of a murder charge, Pigoil, a seasoned stage manager of the Chansonia, a once-buzzing music hall in Paris's vibrant suburbs, finds himself thrust into a labyrinth of past memories and future uncertainties. The tale unfurls from the frost-kissed New Year's Eve of 1935, when Pigoil's world crumbles as he uncovers his wife's infidelity and Galapiat, the district's notorious mobster, seals the fate of the music hall. In the wake of these events, Pigoil experiences the sharp sting of loss yet again, as he loses the custody of his cherished son, Jo-Jo. Desperate and driven, he seeks employment, and in a twist of fate, seizes control of the shuttered Chansonia alongside his comrades, turning it into a cooperative. Galapiat, surprisingly, appears to be temporarily appeased. The reinstated music hall’s beacon of hope is the enchanting Douce, a young maiden from Lille, who becomes the apple of Galapiat's eye. However, her heart yearns for Milou, a local Red, igniting a passionate love story amidst the chaos. As the plot oscillates between heartbreak and triumph, the looming questions remain - what will become of young Jo-Jo? And how does the murder fit into this complex tapestry of life at the Chansonia? Paris 36 is an engrossing tale of love, loss, and the relentless pursuit of dreams, set against the backdrop of a city known for its timeless charm and resilience.
