Plot

In the chilling depths of urban alleyways, a relentless killer emerges from the shadows, a woman's life brutally extinguished as his latest prey. Her lifeless body, marred by a grotesquely severed arm, is found hauntingly displayed in a movie theater. As the dreadful scene unfolds, the call for help echoes in the corridors of the FBI, catching the attention of Agents Brad Abraham and Jason Enola. Enola, a man shattered by obsession, has been trailing an elusive serial killer for a decade, his family and career disintegrated in the process. His obsession is fueled by the killer's signature — a chilling "paper trail" of notes left with his victims. Abraham, Enola's steadfast partner, finds himself at a crossroads, caught between loyalty and concern as he observes Enola spiraling into the abyss. The hunt intensifies as the killer re-emerges after four years of eerie silence, marking the onset of a fresh wave of terror. Into this malevolent web is drawn the unsuspecting psychiatrist, Dr. Alyce Robertson, who starts receiving bone-chilling phone calls from the killer. Thrust into the heart of the investigation, Dr. Robertson is asked to facilitate a meeting with her patients — the agoraphobic Rachel Quinn, the enigmatic William Frost, the troubled Gail Morgan, the unpredictable Jerry Saracen, and the vulnerable Eileen Gibbs. As the puzzle pieces come together, Jason's suspicion falls on the members of this unlikely group, each of them hiding their own secrets. Could one of them be the merciless killer? Papertrail (1998) is a deadly game of cat and mouse, a chilling journey into obsession, and a dark exploration of the human psyche. It will keep you guessing until the very end, questioning who, amongst the ordinary, might be capable of the extraordinary evil.
